After a six-month narcotics investigation, authorities arrested four individuals for their alleged involvement in a cocaine distribution operation that was reportedly conducting drug activities in Essex and Passaic counties.
According to a recent announcement, authorities arrested four individuals on Friday, June 17th, after executing 10 search warrants throughout Passaic, Clifton, and Belleville. The four individuals taken into custody were: 29-year-old Passaic resident Dashawn Jones, 59-year-old Passaic resident Allen Danzler, 37-year-old Clifton resident Deja Walker, and 42-year-old Belleville resident Larry Little.
These arrests represent the culmination of a 6-month coordinated investigation conducted by state, local, and federal authorities, who believe that the defendants were distributing drugs in each of their towns as part of a coordinated operation. In addition to the arrests, the searches turned up two ounces of crack cocaine and more than $15,000 in suspected drug proceeds.
All four defendants were charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. Jones and Little are also charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone. Jones was also charged with evidence tampering, while Little is also facing charges for resisting arrest.
Officials indicated that additional arrests will follow. As far as the cocaine seized during the recent drug investigation is concerned, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5 classifies cocaine distribution charges based on the measured weight of the cocaine associated with the alleged offense. In this case, 2 ounces of cocaine falls within the second degree crime category, which applies to amounts ranging from 0.5 ounce to 5 ounces. Second degree cocaine distribution is punishable by a sentence to serve between 5 and 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
Obviously, a single conviction for second degree cocaine distribution could result in a lengthy prison sentence, which will only be compounded by additional convictions for the remaining charges if the defendants are ultimately found guilty on all counts.
